00:00 if the clinch river breeder reactor is dead the people who are manufacturing the parts for
00:06 it are unaware of its demise a 40 ton water storage tank arrived in Oak Ridge from Massachusetts today
00:13 it will be used to provide water for the breeders cooling system and the man who supervised its
00:19 manufacture and shipment says the journey to Oak Ridge wasn't easy well we did have some
00:24 difficulties with a bridge between Amsterdam and Rome, New York. The bridge
00:30 was narrow and we had some trouble getting it across, but we managed all right." Spokesmen for the breeder project say the manufacture of hardware for the
00:37 plant is going well. All major equipment is now under contract. Its production
00:42 involves over 5,000 people in 23 states. But President Carter has ordered a stop
00:48 to the licensing of the breeder and continues his opposition to the project.
00:52 Well the licensing process is a very long process and although the licensing
00:57 has been halted at the request of the Department of Energy, the other work that
01:02 the project has been authorized to do by the Congress is continuing very well.
01:07 What do you think it will do for the morale of the people at the CRBR office?
01:12 Well it's been a tremendous boost obviously to have a big piece of
01:15 equipment like this come down so we can see that the work that we're doing has
01:19 some results. Meanwhile the breeder site sits empty and quiet waiting for the
01:24 reactor it has been chosen to house. This water storage tank will rest here on the
01:30 trash for about two weeks until it's unloaded and kept across the driveway.
01:33 It's ironic that it's actually within sight of the place where the Clinch
01:37 River breeder reactor will be built, but it cannot be moved there until the
01:41 federal government decides to let the licensing process continue and
01:44 and construction begin. Valerie Hyman in Oak Ridge
